Testing too early?

Hello all

Has anyone ever done a pregnancy test too early and got a positive? For example, have you done an Early Response kit earlier than 6 days before you are due on and it has been positive?

I ovulated on day 9, did the deed on days 8, 9 and 10, and am not due on until 7th Oct. I am being massively impatient but is there any point in testing early or is it another big fat waste of money Grin

Hi Persephone
If you know you ov'd on day 9, then you should be able to test from around day 20 (although best results from day 23 onwards). Don't know how that fits in with your date of 7th Oct, but it sounds like you ov'd early this month so hopefully won't have to wait too long! Good luck.

Thanks jennifer. I know I OVs on day 9 but it's my first month using the sticks so I don't know if I would usually OV that early. It did surprise me.

Thanks for answering. I'm off to my diary to count the days til day 20! Ridiculous of me, I know Blush

Sorry to jump on this thread.

When you say if O day is day 9 then you can test on day 20, does that always mean that anything before 11 days after O day is likely to give a negative.

I'm not sure when I ovulated but I think probably 18th or 19th September. I tested today with first response and got a negative.

persephone, if you're going by ov sticks, you might not have ovulated on day 9 at all. They detect a hormonal surge which may precede ovulation. Ovulation may happen soon after, a little while after or not at all. It's really best to wait until you're due and test then.

lowra, hcg increases at different speeds for different women. I always test positive by 9 days post ovulation but some women won't test positive until they're quite overdue their period. Give it a few days and test again. Maybe after the weekend.

Thanks ShowOfHands. I am thinking I may test again on Sunday. I haven't really got my head around all this stuff yet. I have a long cycle of about 34 days but seem to ovulate relatively early which would mean a luteal phase of around 18-19 days which I have read is unlikely. I conceived DD in the first month but this time it seems to be a bit more tricky! I think I need to start charting my cycle properly.

One more question!

I am sure I felt implantation yesterday, very faint but specific pulling/cramping. Would it be usual to test positive just one day after implantation?

It's never too early to test!

Seriously though, if you're not sure but don't want to spend a fortune on tests, I'd recommend buying cheap strips from eBay or Amazon. They cost as little as 10-20p each. You could test every time you went to the toilet for a week and you wouldn't have spent as much as you would on one branded test. Then if you see a line on one of those tests, break out the decent ones.

With the ultra sensitive eBay/Amazon tests, they're normally as sensitive if not more so than a First Response. Depending on the woman and the pregnancy, you can get a positive as early as 8 days past ovulation but realistically it's usually more like 10 or more.

You usually ovulate 12-48 hours after a positive OPK. Assuming you did feel implantation (and all sorts goes on whether pregnant or not, you're just far more sensitive to it if TTC!) then 1-2 days later MAY show a positive.

I tested positive 9 days past ovulation with both, and felt implantation cramps the day before right in my back, felt like I was coming on early!
Good luck x

Thanks for all your kind advice. I tested negative today...9 days after ovulation. Now I am torturing myself and have achieved nothing. Am going to force myself to wait until my period is due Smile

Hello, I hope you don't mind me adding to this but it sounds like you are wondering the same things as I am. I should also be waiting at least a week before thinking about testing but feel very impatient!

I keep feeling 'symptoms' but am wondering if your body is already making perceptible changes then surely the test would be positive even if it is very very early days?

I think I may become an early test addict!

I was using OV sticks, had smiley face on 18th and 19th September, and DTD every day around then. Due on 2nd October.

So... when to test? Was going to wait until I was late - is this crazy talk?!

Another BFN for me this morning. Still only 10 or 11 DPO I think... No obvious symptoms though so not looking good.

Gah I need to learn some patience.
