Hello,

This is my first post and im probably going to babble a little so please excuse me.
I married DH in June and we are wanting to start a family (i will admit it has mostly been him, i was/am maybe abit scared for want for a better word) and i came off the pill just before we married.
As i said i havent exactly been 100% into it but reading this forum, websites and seeing friends and family with their little ones has started to convince me that maybe i would be good at it (the mothering part).
I have no idea about OPKs, charts etc or even how long my cycle is but i am wanting to start taking TTC seriously and give it my best shot so any advice (apart from DTD) would be greatly appreciated, i went to Boots today and bought some Folic Acid + Vit D as i thought that was as good a place as any to start.

Sorry for going on and hello again Smile

HI Gem..
Your fertile days are 13th and 14th day from the start of your period - the egg will hang around (so to speak) for 72 hrs..so you have untill the 16th (being the last day) to fall pregnant

Good luck :-)

your ovulation occurs about 12-16 days before your next expected period. This can indeed be also 14 days after your previous one, but not necessarily, depends on your cycle.

To get pregnant, you should not wait until ovulation, but have sex a few days before ovulation - the egg can be fertilized for 12-24 days only, but the sperm can live up to 72 hours, even up to 5 days according to some sources, so you want to have the sperm ready and waiting when you ovulate.

Short summary here:

I would certainly recommend some kind of ovulation monitor, there are various options available that will tell you if you're about to ovulate.
