Hi,

I have PCOS and have belatedly discovered that OPKs don't work. I'm struggling to identify EWCM (I can't find my cervix Blush) although I think I may have had something the day after AF ended last month.

I have very regular periods so I've been told that I'm probably ovulating at least some of the time.

I have also started measuring BBT this month on Fertility Friend and it came up with a thing this evening to say I ovulated on day 8 of my cycle. Is this possible or are my hormones screwing everything up?

Can anyone offer any advice or similar experience?

Hi I'm Faith. I'm no expert on PCOS but I'll help with what I do know! I tend to ovulate on the early side, once FF put me at day 8, but I actually disagreed and changed it to day 12. Where in your cycle are you? Day 8 would be early but not unheard of! On the BESH thread we call it Futility Fiend because it's so confusing! From what I understand, temping isn't always very accurate in PCOS and I know opks aren't either. Not very helpful to identify when/if you're ovulating
If you have regular cycles, I think the best thing you can do is try to have sex three times a week, every week. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along soon!

Thanks for your response Faith.

I'm running out of ways to tell whether I'm ovulating or not and when. Out of interest, what was it that made you disagree about the dates from FF?

What is the BESH thread?

Phantom

Are you under the care of a gynae at a subfertility unit; you ideally ought to be seeing such a person. PCOS is a bugger of a condition and requires careful management.

What are your hormone levels like at present?. When did you last have blood tests done?.

Some PCOSers do ovulate occasionally so this may be happening with you. Equally it may not. The surest way of knowing whether ovulation is happening or not is to have blood tests done.

FF is not always helpful to those with PCOS; some PCOSers end up with a temp chart that is almost impossible to interpret with any degree of certainty.

The BESH thread is another thread on this page; think it also refers to the Eurovision Song Contest in its title.

I disagreed with FF because it seemed too early, I saw ewcm after that, I also got another peak on day 12 which seemed a more likely ovulation date!
Now Attila has been round these parts some time and has been a help to me more than once, so I'd heed her advice!
How long have you been ttc?
Come and have a look on the BESH thread we're a bunch of 30 something who've been ttc for a while! You'd be welcome to come and say hi!

Thank you Atilla, I have seen an endocrinologist periodically over the last few years but since I wasn't trying to get pregnant and had regular periods, they never really wanted to see me again.

My hormeone levels are raised but not sure of precise details. I've had tests in the last few months but not specifically to check ovulation. The outcome always seems to be that since I have regular periods there is little point in taking any of the drugs. I did have a scan when I was diagnosed and that confirmed I was ovulating but that was years ago now. The main thing I need to do is lose weight. I've got an appointment booked with the GP so I'll request a blood test then.

Faith We haven't been trying very long - since the beginning of the year. But we weren't trying immediately after the end of my period because you're not supposed to ovulate then. Its only last month and this, that I realised that I seem to get symptoms of ovulation immediately after my period that I've come round to the idea that I might either ovulate very early or that PCOS is getting in the way of everything.

I think I might come and join the BESH thread then....
