Hello

Sorry if there is already a thread on this, just point me in the right direction if so. I was just wondering how you TTC-ers were feeling about Christmas parties and nights out and the amount of alcohol consumed on such nights?

I am heading out tonight to Christmas party 2 of 7. Yes SEVEN. I am planning to have a glass or two of wine, but feel guilty at the thought of being on my 2ww (I think I ovulated yesterday) I don't want to put my life on hold, nor attract any suspicion (gossipy workmates!) but obviously the little life that might or might not be in there is the most important thing.

Anyone else in a similar predicament? Xmas Smile

I drink but not to excess throughout my time ttc, not just on the 2ww. I try to stick to a maximum of 2 glasses of wine a night.

The baby doesn't share your blood stream initially anyway, so you don't need to worry about the baby getting drunk!

I've pretty much cut drinking out anyway so could get away with it and to be honest I really can't be arsed to go out this year (I think mainly because Ive just walked home and it is FREEZING!). Time to hybernate methinks. What Eurochick said is about right for me too.

BTW, that's not 2 glasses of wine every night for me! Just when I am out. :)

I'll be on the 2ww over Christmas and have already pre-planned my excuses... (1) got to drive home (2) got to pick up DP (3) I got the short straw so DP is drinking, i'm driving (4) i'm on antibiotics.... post-Christmas i'll just be on a health kick... Having said all that, i may sometimes have a Chrismtas drink in hand, and DP has 'kindly' offered to slyly take my drink off my hands.... Good luck...

Ok brilliant, thanks. Had 2 glasses of wine and now home, so feeling OK. I@m not a massive drinker, but tend to have a few so will no doubt raise a few eyebrows I start abstaining without being subtle. Will recite the prepared excuses if I get a BFP in 13 sleeps. Until then, moderation.

I looked up the NHS week by week calendar and it says the baby starts sharing the placenta at 4 weeks so I reckon after that is the key time, and by then I'll know.

Good luck, all. Its only my first month... fingers crossed!

After too many months of ttc I've given up abstaining... I figure a few glasses (for last night's xmas party read half a bottle and several g&ts) of wine before placenta sharing happens will do less damage than stressing about not drinking. Plus, I live in hope that soon I will be pregnant so I should drink what I can.

But really I think it's what you feel comfortable with.

im in a similar situation next year, 30th birthday party planned - lots of guests invited, planning to ttc 6 weeks before party... so the grand plan is to save up some red wine and white wine bottles that I will be re-filling with some non-alcoholic wine next year to avoid any gossip! hopefully with the number of guests there are people might not notice what I am drinking!
