Funny question, I know - but is the first day of your period the day when you get any sign at all, or only when you get the red blood? I've been getting confused as I was counting from the day when I had the first signs - browny discharge - but for the past 4 or 5 months the actual bleeding hasn't started for 2 to 3 days after this. Need to know as dh and I are off to see the GP next week about us not conceiving. Ta x

Thanks Bigbird. I did think my dates had been a bit out recently. It's because I've obviously not been "counting" correctly. God, I'd have paid more attention in science at school if I'd known I'd need this at my age!

I had the 3 day thing when I conceived ds, so needed to know this in order to work out my dates.

Doctor said it counts from the very first moment you see blood of any kind.

At my 12 week scan these dates were confirmed, so I gues she was right.

Moomin - I understand what you are talking about. Second time round it took 8 months for me to conceive. I had 3-4 days of brown staining prior to period starting. Consultant said that was due to progesterone levels dropping and period counts when red bleeding starts. Funnily enough I conceived just after my appointment with consultant. That sounds a bit iffy doesn't it. Should say I conceived with my husband

I got totally confused about this. In the end I bought a persona and found out that I had been trying too early each month. A couple of months on persona and we had ds1.

After reading these replies and talking to my neighbour today about her experiences, I've decided to put off seeing our GP for a couple more months. I'm going to get some 1st response wee sticks and look at when I'm actually ovulating, as I'd assumed it was around the time I got the mucus (nice!). My neighbour took 1 year to conceive her dd2 but after using the wee sticks found out she was ovulating 2 days after the mucus. So, I'm going to count from this month's PROPER 1st day (Sat) and begin the sticks in the week I think I'll be most fertile and se what happens! Thanks for the help everyone...
