Hi all, just wondering, I understand that progesterone levels spike 7 days post ovulation. Do they then start to decline? do they still decline if conception has taken place Confused For instance my cd21 was 47, cd22 57 and cd25 is 68. This is on a natural cycle. I realise this could also be that ovulation was slightly later so not pinning my hopes on it. I guess my real question is do they decline and then rise again???
Hope you can help Smile

It will rise if you conceive and decline if you don't. That is my understanding of how it works. The drop in progesterone is probably one of the things that triggers your body to start your period. I'm not sure that day 21 is necessarily the peak though, and yes, you could have ovulated later.

How are you getting all these progesterone levels measured every day?

Hi kat, thanks for the response. I have pcos and my consultant has been checking my levels for two months now. He has given me quite a few filled out blood forms and originally told me to have the test done on cd21, 22 and 23 to see if we could maybe catch the 'peak'. Day 23 fell on the weekend hence the gap. His infertility nurse is away now for two weeks so I have been unable to discuss the results. He is also away this week. Will just have to wait and see what happens and hope for the best i guess.

Ah, I see. I think the average person's levels will peak at 7dpo, hence the so-called Day 21 test.

Based on temps, I am certainly a slow riser which probably indicates my progesterone levels will still be rising after 7dpo. Maybe you are the same? Or day 21 was not 7dpo for you?

But kat is absolutely right that if you are not pg, they will start to decline again before/when you get your period.

Those are really good levels. Mine was 30 at 6dpo (7dpo was at the weekend) and 30 is the number for confirming ov accordin to most drs.

Hi, just thought I would add that my levels are now 75 Shock on cd26 and I have decided not to have any more bloods taken as starting to feel like a pin cushion Wink. Really sore boobs, guess that might be normal as my level doesnt normally go above the 50's!!!!
