hello ladies, would really like to get some help - i am trying to conceive and have had two msicarriages and basic tests show nothing wrong . the hospital is now testing to see when and whether i am ovulating. i have been told that i am releasing my eggs too late so that they are then too mature to fertilise and will therefore need an injection to release them at the right time before they mature. has anyone else come across this and has it got a name and how successful is it ?

Hi daisybob, sorry I have no info for you but just wanted to say hello and good luck with the treatment. Do you already have children?

For what it's worth, the treatment sounds pretty sensible to me. It took me 3 yrs to conceive my dd (dd - darling daughter), so hang on in there!

thanks for your response - i don't have any children so this is all new to me - i am also 37 so very worried about my age - how old were you when you conceived?

Hi there daisybob, welcome to mumsnet

I wanted to echo what everyone else has said, I'm afraid I run dry on the info front too. For what it's worth I don't think that 37 is all that old where 'assisted conception' is concerned.

hi daisybob. i think i am right in saying that you have luteal phase defect. twiglett has this, so maybe sending out a post to her would help. basically, it means that there is not long enough between release of egg and period. 10 days or less is considered a lpd. your body isnt producing enough of something or other to maintain a pregnancy. this may well not be what you have, but when you say you are releasing eggs too late, it must mean that they are closer to your periods than a regular cycle would be. (14 days). is this right?
twiglett was prescribed clomid to correct it and got pregnant first time. i'm sure there are injections there to do the same thing. i would search for luteal phase defects on the net if i were you. there is alot of info out there. good luck

Hi daisybob. Egypt is right I think - it sounds like your luteal phase is too short. If you want a natural alternative, it might be worth looking into Agnus Castus which is known to regulate cycles (I took it both times when trying to conceive, as I have PCOS, and fell quickly both times - I'm nearly 40 and expecting my 2nd so don't worry about your age!!)

I was under impression that fertility trends are strongly heriditary; so a good way to tell if you're likely to have trouble conceiving "late" in life is to look at women on your mom's side of the family. If your mother or her mother had children late in life, odds are very good that you will be able to, also.

I have a friend who also had two miscarriages and then a successful pregnancy at 37 ... so try not to worry (impossible I know!). And short luteal phase can be successfully treated - as shown by other mumsnetters here. Might be worth searching on other threads. The great news for you is that you seem to have no trouble conceiving, so if they sort out the release of your eggs you stand a really good chance of a successful pregnancy. Good luck.

37 isn't old in fertility terms. I recently spoke to a top specialist who said that when he sees 38 year old women can't conceive (not your problem, of course) he would only think age was a factor in about 25% of cases - the other 75% would have other reasons, like yours. So your problems almost certainly aren't age related. What's great is that your drs seem to have pinpointed your problem and have a treatment that ususually works, so I think you can be optimistic. Good luck.

Please don't worry too much about age. Honestly if they've identified another problem, as aloha says, that's it not your age. I've just had my second at 40.

hello - diasybob here again - why is eveything so confusing??? The hospital have now tested my progesterone and said that because it was at a certain level (13?) that i must have ovulated sooner than they thought and that it doesn't look like i need an HCG injection or that i have lpd. they are now going to test again next month to see what's going on. i don't understand what this is all about. first they say that my eggs grew too large and that i would need the injection now becasue of progesterone level this is not the case - can anyone shed any light on what's going on?
