How much can luteal phase vary?

I know the luteal phase is meant to be roughly the same each month. However, last month I started testing with opk and came out with a luteal phase of just 10 days. I did have an extremely stressful month though and whole cycle was very short - just 25 days. My average is 29-30 days.

This month opk showed up positive one day later than last month, so I think I ovulated on day 17. This should mean af arriving a day later on day 27 if what I have read about luteal phase is true, yet in general my cycle is nearly always longer than this.

So could my luteal phase have been abnormally short last month due to stress? Could my luteal phase be longer this month as I have been much more chilled out? Or do you think stress would not have this shortening effect? Right now I'm not sure whether to expect af on Thursday or on Sunday based on normal average cycle. Very confused!

For the months I have been charting, my luteal phase has stayed exactly the same. I know some people have managed to lengthen their luteal phase using B6, so I guess it is possible but to change, but I think it is usually pretty fixed.

So I should prob be expecting af on Thursday then? If that is only 10dpo would I get a positive hpt that day if I tested? Or would it be better to wait a few days if af doesn't show up?

Generally luteAl phases are about the same every month, give or take a day or 2. Stress cAn delay ovulation but your LP will normally stay the same. Have you worked out your LP by charting your temps or do you just count from the day you see a positive opk?

Not many people would get a positive test 9/10 dpo so I would hold out on the early testing.

I count from the day after I see a pos opk - haven't got into charting yet. I have been trying 5 months. I saw the doc last month about short phase and she sent me for day 21 tests last Friday - the results are in so I'm going to get them this Friday. Worried that I haven't ovulated or something, as no sign of af yet and I usually spot for a few days beforehand :(
