No booze/cheese/hot baths... in TWW?

Hello...This is my first month TTC and I have all the symptoms of AF coming on! Sad

In my TWW I have been abstaining from booze/hot baths/blue cheeses... etc...etc and now feel really bummed out because I have been altering my behaviour like I was pregnant and now feel a bit crap that I am not. Just wondered if other people act 'pre-pregnant' in their TWW.

p.s. I also feel a bit stupid feeling low because I know this is only my first month TTC Blush

Would appreciate people's thoughts! Wink

Hmm - well it took me 18 months to get pregnant and if I'd have abstained from booze/hot baths/blue cheese for all that time I would have gone mad!

I think a sensible amount of booze and reasonably hot baths are fine anyway and a bit of blue cheese is very unlikely to kill you.

But it's up to you and what you feel comfortable with!

Good luck - hope it happens soon for you!

Hmmm well, I've been doing this, don't feel stupid, fed up! It is frustrating though and I've been exactly like this from the very start of this longer than expected voyage I'm on......

Adding to the questions though, I've rather fallen off the wagon on all of these things as it's been a while and nothing, is this a really bad idea? Seems like the advice is conflicting between "relax, everything in moderation and cut things out once you really know, you're more likely to conceive relaxed and indulgent than stressed and abstemious" and well, the list above......

Ooooh, my first Mumsnet post, most exciting!

Well, personally I don't act like I'm pregnant when I'm on the 2WW. We've been trying for a long while and I only get through it by pushing the whole thing to the back of my mind and behaving absolutely normally until AF inevitably shows up.

I take the folic acid every morning and I've cut down on alcohol anyway. Everything else (including caffeine) is as it would be if we weren't ttc.

It's a hugely personal thing though. If you think that you'd feel personally responsible for bringing on AF/an early mc if you drank alcohol/ate blue cheese etc then it would be sensible for you to not put yourself through that.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone - I guess I just didn't expect to feel so down at the arrival of AF! It's silly because the logical side of my brain knew it wouldn't happen straight away but there was all those stories of people that got PG straight away whispering at the back of my head! Smile

With the 2WW it seems such a hard call to make because of course I wouldn't want to feel responsible for an early mc but at the same time if I feel like this from month 1 will I need to be certified if it takes a while??!! Wink

p.s Hello JRsandcoffee is mine too!

9dpo today and just made myself a dinner of brie and crackers!! So, for me, the answer is no. We will have to abstain for 9 months if successful!

My DS was conceived as a result of booze! Blush I also didn't get a + hpt until 6 weeks into my pg, by which point I'd given up on the idea of being pg and even drowned my sorrows a couple of times. He's now a lively and happy, healthy 2 year-old.

Have to say I agree with the others about not putting your life on hold. You'll have to do a lot of that during your pregnancy (when it happens) so it's likely to make you more stressed and resentful if TTC means giving up the things you like.

I've been ttc #2 for 2 years now. I'm now getting help, but can't imagine how miserable life would have been if I'd abstained from stuff for that long. Just be aware of what you're eating and drinking, but don't live in a straitjacket. Best of luck.

In both my pregnancies I drank a spectacular amount of alcohol during the time between conception and a positive pregnancy test Blush

I don't really have much caffeine anyway, just the odd soft drink. Also not a regular soft cheese eater.

Love my wine though and do cut down in the 2ww, just have one wee glass instead of several big ones!

This is only my 3rd ever 2ww though, I conceived DS after only 2 goes Blush.

Felt awfully lucky, so I don't know what it'll be like if it takes a few months longer this time.

if this helps to ease your mind when i conceived (and didnt know i was pregnant) my DS 5 yrs ago i was a big drinker and practically lived on brie, pate, prawns an endless other "shouldn't eat whilst pregnant" foods. I felt awful when i found out i was 7 weeks pregnant and had binged over xmas on all those bad for baby things ( i stopped drinking immediately), but i had a fantastic pregnancy and now have a very healthy 4yr old :) hope this helps :) x

Thank you to everyone who has posted saying don't put life on hold, never has something so tempting been so miserable in practice so I'm glad of the support for stopping it! I had to laugh at that list Pumpkin, sounds very familiar....I'm currently debating whether to take the second lot of Clomid festering in my kitchen drawer over my cycle which falls over Christmas, think I'll just go for it, sounds like it makes little difference although I am a bit aged at 36 so maybe i should be more responsible, maybe in the new year. Now, where did I put that brie........

(In case anyone is wondering why I'm thinking so far ahead it's because the beloved is away a lot a the moment....in the last two weeks he's been in NE London, unfriendly climes to the east and is now somewhere friendlier but unfortunately distant to the west......oh the joys - I'm in Wiltshire!)

Has anyone come off birth control and felt pretty rubbis throughout tww? I was on it for 10years and although AF came back straight away feel quite sickly during the wait is this normal?

Report
ArchieandElliot · 16/01/2011 17:27

Anyone out there still trying? I'm 7 dpo and didn't get positive test until 13 dpo last time so going mad with the wait. No self control and already did 2 10miu pee tests.
My boobs seem to have swelled (according to my DH and best friend who both decided to stare at them and discuss it in pizza express a few days ago) and they are really tender and heavy. Nothing else. I had spotting on day 15 of my cycle and thought it was ovulation but that didn't happen until day 24. Tick, tick, tick. Arggghhhh.

witches I have been exactly the same. Been ttc for over a year now with SO many false alarms with sickness, mood swings, sore boobs etc during tww. Went to see my GP who suggested Magnesium during tww. Tried it last month tho we had another bfn DH at least felt it was safe to come out from behind the sofa unlike the month before! Grin

Bexamundo, what was the magnesium supposed to do for you?

Report
Bexamundo · 18/01/2011 19:24

Magnesium is meant to balance your hormones and reduce severity of PMS...so far so good!
