Hi all - after a very long time of on-off-on trying for no.2, finally got around to seeing my gp today about a referral to a specialist. The doctor recommended trying Persona to pinpoint my ovulation days. I'm going to get one, but wondered how many had fallen pg quite quickly after using this method?

Well, I did get pregnant, but not terribly quickly. Over a year, in fact, but I am over 40 so I don't think I can blame Persona for that. I like flashing light gizmos and the reassurance of confirmation that I am ovulating regularly, so I liked using it. One warning, though: I don't think you shoudl over-rely on it and fall into the trap of only having sex when it tells you to. It only gives you the two days you get your LH surge, and to maximise your chances you should have sex throughout your fertile period (either througbhout the time you get eggwhite mucus - if you do - or follow Prof Winston's advice and have sex every other day throughout the month, or at least up till just after you have ovulated).

ME! I got pregnant first month I used it. Had been ttc six months after coming off the Pill.

I am 34.

OOh yes, Persona is ace. Twice got a hole in one . Unfortunately m/c no2, so trying again now...

I think the key is to BD as soon as it's red, ie from day 8/9 to ovo day.

I lent my to my friend who tried for a year & she got pregnant first month, as did another friend recently.

Good luck !

I used persona for a few years before ttc (was fed up of the chemicals in the pill etc), and then the 1st month we ttc, well, it happened! Mind you, I usually get ovulation pains anyway, so I can usually tell, even without the green light. But still, the persona ovulation reminder always coincided with my ov pains, so I think it was spot on.... good luck!

I took 2 months to program the persona - got pg on the third month (first month of trying)...it's a bit of a bother for the first month (lots of tests) but was worth it for us.

Just saw mojomummy's post - I agree, bd on the first day it turns red.

Thanks for all the replies! I was sooo lazy when it came to taking temps, must admit, so Persona sounds my cup of tea. (Hester, i like flashing light gizmos too!)

Sorry to jump in, but I'm thinking of trying Persona, but I really don't know much about it. Is it just one device, or are there different ones? Where is the best place to buy them?

It's just one device - and I think that you can only buy it from Boots (or ebay ).
It's quite expensive to buy the 'computer gizmo' then every month you need to buy a pack of sticks (like pg tests) for about 10quid as well.

Thanks, do you have to start on the first day of your af? Cause I better go and get one now if that's the case!

Sorry, missed your reply earlier...yes you need to start on day 1.

I think you can start on any day up to day 5, as long as you have it to test first thing that am ? I usually switch my over on the day 5 & it works fine....

I have just started using a Persona. You can start using it from CD5. The first test is done on CD6. However, I have now had red days since CD6. It is now CD9. I did a second test today and have another red. Not what I expected to happen really. I didn't expect red so soon in cycle.

I'm red early in cycle...are you TTC ? I'm CD 9, usually have the egg on days 11/12.

I am (although not 100% sure at moment; having t consider a break to rethink - long story). We have been TTc for 14 months now. I did temping and OPKs (and CM watch) in the first 6 or 7 months and OV was always quite latish in cycle - around CD18. But past 2 or 3 cycles AF has been a bit wierd - very short cycle and very short/light AF. And now these early red lights.

I had a miscarriage in Aug, so TTC again. We were first time them, I ovo'd on day 12/13 & normally have a 28 day cycle if that help ? I'm not much good with CM..

One of the reasons I want to "properly" start trying again is ds (5.5) is making me sad - he's getting more and more upset lately about not having a brother. He has started referring to an imaginary brother called Callum, who is 8. He came home from school yesterday with twin boys from his year who live on our road; a neighbour was speaking to them all, I only caught the tail end of the conversation but I heard ds say to her "I'm somebody else's brother". tonight in bed he was almost in tears about it all. Sorry, slight detraction from my original posting.

Good luck with your TTC jodee. Sorry to hear about your DS's upset. Did you GP offer any other investigations? After 12 months of TTC I was offered blood tests, and DH was offered a sperm test andg general medical.

that's sad, I'm an only child & desperately wanted my mum & dad to have another.
As mentioned earlier the persona does seem to have good sucess rates. However I do have a friend who has tried with it for 2 mths with no luck. But there maybe other reasons for that.

jodee · 13/09/2005 21:09

Thanks, Hula. Yes, the GP dictated a letter to the specialist whilst I was in the room. And DH has to do a sperm test. I'd had blood tests a while back though, to check I was ovulating, which i seem to be. Hope everything works out for you too.
