alternative formula to neocate for older reflux baby?

11 month ds2 has very bad reflux, on various meds but not getting any better, was thinking about perhaps talking to sonsultant about changing his milk. He has been on neocate since 8 weeks old. What alternatives are there that i dont know about? It cant be based on cow's milk, even hydrolysed like nutramigen. He isnt that sick, it is silent reflux so more pain/burning. Any ideas?

mad4myboys, how about enfamil lactose free? or any of the soya based formulas? (SMA does one I believe). my DS is on enfamil AR and it does seem to suit him well, no more choking or screaming in pain when feeding, but it does contain lactose so probably no good for your DS. maybe you could talk to your pharmacist and ask what special formulas they can order, and then discuss the options with your consultant?

my pharmsist IS good, am always in there with ds's perscriptions. I wouldnt/couldnt put him on even lactose free...

i have introduced soya (in food) last 2 weeks for first time (ds1 has various allergies) and he seemed fine. Today i feel his reflux has been gradually getting worse, my sister says probably the soya but i dont think that would make reflux worse do you? The most he has been having is say soya spread cheese on a cracker

mad4myboys, you know I am new to the reflux business ;) and you know so much more than me. I have heard about soya causing allergic reactions, but not about it making reflux worse. but who knows...
why can your DS not have LF formula, if you don't mind me asking? and please remind me what meds he's on?

he is on omperazole, domperidone, and sennakot for constipation hes had since birth.

Hi by the way! Im so tired i didnt twig it was you!

In all honest truth? Im scared of giving him just a lactose free formula.....ds1 is allergic to dairy and intolerant to soya. He was on alot of formulas and in the end he had nanny goat formula from 3 months and he was a different child (he had reflux but he was fine on the meds and he was projectile vomitting all the time whereas ds2 it is the pain of the acid)

we were told to avoid the things ds1 was allergic to...im scared to try him on just a lactose free milk as it is still based on cows milk... he started off on cow and gate cows milk formula, then went to i think nutramigen, then i ended up trying him on nanny goat but only for a week as he had a bit of ezcema... he was then put on the neocate..... Im just DESPERATE to not make him worse and im worried him being on a cows milk based even lactose free will make it worse (suffering with bad PND again so maybe abit irrational)

My ds had reflux (undiagnosed) and was also lactose intolerant. However a friend of mine bf her boy for a long time because of allergies and then used rice based formula. He has reflux type reactions to soya (vomiting, discomfort and diarrhoea).

Your little boy sounds as if he has the same allergies as my friend's little boy.

Have you tried the alternative route?

he has been seeing cranial osteopath (friend of mine) since birth but never really done anything. Friday im going to see someone who does 'alternative type' not homeopath...cant remember what it is called... someone recommended her. She looks at the whole body, does some sort of tests, then gives types of medicines... cant remember now! Im so desperate!

Im not saying he IS allergic to anything yet... BUT another big problem he has along with constipation since birth is that he cant tollerate ANY type of protein, so no meat, fish, beans, pulses etc etc. He will have awfull tummy ache and wind all through the night. Same with wheat and gluten.... Doctor cant find anything wrong other than reflux, nothing to point towards why he cant digest protein...

Oh poor you and him. I hope you find a path through this. Seems like if you could just solve one small thing everything would fall into place.
