Hi DS 6 has today been put forward for growth hormone after failing two blood tests.

He is producing the hormone but not very much of it. He is teeny tiny for his age weighig just over two stone and is def. smallest in class.

Do you have any experiences of administering it, what side effects have you found and has it worked?

thank you -am a little nervous

Can I be quite cheeky and ask just how tall he is - ds2 goes back to endo in a couple of week for more measuring/testing. I think he's 109cm and 6.5yo.

Maybe not directly useful but my mum takes growth hormones. She has to inject into her thigh each evening as it works best overnight.

The drugs also have to be kept cool in a fridge and when travelling have to be kept in a special travel pouch with a freezer block, therefore if you are travelling on a plane you need to keep them in your hand luggage and will need a GP or hospital note for the airline.

She has been taking it for years now and its second nature for her, not sure how much help this is but I thought I would pass on what I know. Hope you DS is ok

He measured out at 113 today, he is almost seven.

I am nervous obviously because I will have to administer it myself until he is capable/responsible enough to do it for himself.

This obviously has other implications i.e. it may limit him going to sleep overs etc? Or can I do it at different times of the day if this is the case.

Unfortunately I am separated from his father and it will mean his father receiving the training on how to administer it too. Which on a personal note I am dreading.

hi I am 30 yrs old and I was given daily injections of GH as a child. We bought and automatic injection tool that basically injected the needle for us. I was embarassed to tell any friends that I was on GH, but I don't think I missed out on sleepovers I think we did it just before and then just after. I don't remember having any side effects. I mainly remember having lots of blood drawn at the Hospital.

The doctors thought I would only grow to be 4ft6in or 4ft8in without the GH. After treatment as an Adult I grew to be 4ft11in. So about 3-5inches over my projected height. I beleive it was worth it because I can drive a car, and maybe I wouldn't be able to if I was 3-5inches shorter. Hope this helps!
