worrisome re-occurring fever in ds2

Since January ds2 has had a bout of fever lasting 3 - 5 days in every month except April. This month it was only separated by 2 weeks! I am baffled, the doctors seem almost equally baffled. One suggestion after a positive strep culture was that he is harboring a chronic strep infection. He was put on antibiotics for this 3 weeks ago and seemed fine after he finished it only to have the same thing starting on Friday morning. I have been up with him all night every night since. When the ibuprofen kicks in he has generally seemed fine but as of yesterday the fever was creeping back sooner in between doses and instead of stabilizing and going down in about 30 minutes after a dose it would continue to rise and then finally go down after an hour to an hour and a half. I've been doing cool cloths and liquids and tepid/warm baths. We took him back in to the doctor's office this morning as they said they wanted to do another strep culture the next time this happened.

Anyone have any experience of this?

Sorry if I'm rambling a bit. I've been running on only 30 minutes to an hour of sleep at a time and not much of that for the last 3 days. It feels much like the zombie days of having a newborn except I'm more worried so fretting during my wakeful times and constantly checking him.
