DS1 having ears pinned back tomorrow - UNDER LOCAL ANAESTHETIC!

sorry, don't mean to shout!! But under an LA, I can't help worrying how he will cope with it. He is 9 by the way and very grown up and matter of fact and not at all worried. If he was having a GA then I'd be worried about that even more though.

Anyone elses DC's had their ears pinned back or a LA??

My son had his cruciate ligament replaced under a spinal...but they valiumed him as well so he doesn't remember it. They'll probably do that with your son as well.

I had a hysterectomy undre a spinal with no valium...

I am not entirely sure what they do to pin back ears, but surely he is going to hear strange noises and smell odd things. Its whether he can cope with all that.

I have had a spinal myself, and also a LA into my eye which OMG hurt like hell! I just keep thinking ears don't have much feeling and also, it's a Plastic Surgeon at Birmingham Children's Hospital so she must know what she's doing!

But still....he's 9....here's hoping for the Valium then!!

My Mum wanted her hip replaced under a spinal...I couldn't understand why. She said that because her brother had had it done she thought she could. He is a lot tougher than her (even wanted to watch), but she is too soft for it.

I hope it all goes well for DS tomorrow. I also hope you manage not to worry about him too much.

oh yes, I remember that smell when they did my eye - was like burning bacon! Made me feel sick!

Apparently someone will go in with him just to talk to him all the way through.

Can't wait til tomorrow evening!

Thank you for asking!

He was SO brave! He did a little cry in the anaesthetic room when they were injecting his ear but he just kept very still and squeezed my hand very tight. After that I had to go back to the ward but the docs said he was very brave, just asking questions and he doesn't seem bothered by it at all tonight!

All went well (although I can't see for myself because the bandages have to stay on for a week - but the docs said they were pleased with the result).

All the nurses etc were coming to see him after and say how brave he was as apparently not many kids will tolerate it and the anaesthetist is on stand-by for a general, as he was today.

But my little lad did it
