my Mum keeps telling me she's probably caught a "chill".Could these symptoms be caused by walking through water. She does feel cold all the time and is having tummy pains. She fell in too and water was quite up on her body as she's so small for her age.

Take her to the doctor, tell him about the river. She might have picked up a water-borne virus, or some kind of worm?

could that be serious? What kind of worm?

What are the symptoms of Weil's Disease (sp) there are all sort of nasty bugs in rivers. In the meantime I'd get her on some pro-biotic yoghurts.

Probably no help, but I have been like that for the last week too, I feel like rubbish.

And I haven't been anywhere near a river, It may just be a virus or bug that is doing the rounds.

I was going to say that she could've picked up some sort of parasitic infection. I'd get her to a GP

I'm not medic, sorry, but I know that rivers harbour plenty of bugs, as cargirl says.

But don't panic, you mum could be right and it might be nothing, just make a doc's appointment to be sure.

It doesn't sound bad enough to be Weil's disease

Early Symptoms are: Fever, Muscular aches and pains, lost of appetite, nausea when lying down.

and if it was flowing water as opposed to stagnant water it is unlikely to be that. I would just go to GP and ask for some tests to rule Weils and other similar water bourne stuff out.

you have to be careful about weils disease in rivers - worth a trip to the doctor but don't worry too much as it's quite rare....
