baby acne? eczema?

my 9mo ds has in the last few days developed loads of spots on his cheeks, a few on his shouldes and back too. They are raised and dry and the surrounding skin is very red. He is scratching and rubbing his head a lot esp when distressed. At first I thought it was baby acne (he had it as a newborn) but looking online it seems that he's a bit old for that to be the case ... could it be eczema? I have been told that I suffered badly with it as a baby.

Sounds like it could be.
My 10 month old DS had a rash which started on his arms and legs, quite different to the 'scaly' dry skin he has also had. I asked my GP, who said the rash was eczema (I thought it was heat rash, which it looked very similar to).
I would go to your GP and get proper diagnosis. He/she will also prescribe some cream. TBH, we are only just getting on top of managing DSs eczema, after trying various creams.
I think anything 'contagious' like chicken pox etc tends to start on the trunk (although I am no expert by any means!).
Is your DS OK in other respects? I.e. no temperature, not behaving differently, eating normally?
Good luck.

PS there are lots of threads about eczema on the 'allergy' forum, which might help?

That's fine. Definitely worth a trip to the Doctor either way.

Hi all,

Haven't got any answers as to whether what the op is talking about is baby acne or not as I am wondering if my five week old has it. Is it likely to entail small spots on the nck and upper torso too?
