Anyone know about mumps

Ds1s best friend has been unwell with "probably mumps" for 3 days. Day 1 the swelling was horrendous - 6 inches added onto his face, day 2 less uncomfortable, day 3 almost invisible.

His mum has been avised to keep him out of circulation for 5 days. My children's health book says he is infectious for 2 weeks.

We are all due at a swimming party on day 7. Both he and my boys have had mmr jabs.

So does anyone know if you can have mumps that disappear in only two days?

His face was soooo swollen that it seems it was mumps, so am I stupid thinking of letting ds1 go swimming with him less than a week later?
