Full leg cast can't fit in the car

Ds (aged 14) has fractured his tibia.

He is wearing a full leg cast. It is necessary because of where the fracture is.

He can't fit in the car with this cast on - he's tall.

So to get him home from hospital, he has to use hospital transport.

Very kind and accommodating of them.

However, at the end of August, we are leaving the country by car to go and live in another country.

DD's school in new country starts on 4th September.

How the hell am I going to get him there???

He starts GCSE course in September so really can't miss anything

It may sound strange, but could you get a garage to temporarily remove the front passenger seat? Your DS could then sit in the back with room for his cast in front.

Well Dh was going to drive one car. I was to drive the other. Divide the 4 dcs, four dogs and four cats between us.

I'll ask about removing a seat. His leg has to be elevated though.

Remove the seat, put a cat travelling box where the seat was, ds in the back with his foot up on the cat box. Sorted!

I guess this depends on what type of Car you have?

Have you tried putting him in the back and lying accords the back seats. I know far from ideal.

From experience with my son (14) last year he had the same cast all the way to his hip. I feel your pain everything is a challenge x hope you manage to get sorted hun

Who doesn't know someone whose come back from a skiing holiday with a full leg cast?

but holiday is a different scenario. the op is organising an international move, I doubt that would be covered by a holiday insurance.

medevac is incredibly expensive, 10k is not something I would have spare.

DS2 had an operation on his knee when he was 14 and he was in a full leg brace. We had a 7 seater Citroen C4 Picasso at the time so DH took one of the seats out on the middle row and he sat in the back row.

I hope he's soon better. Poor lad must be in a lot of pain.

My Mum broke her leg at a family members house and travelled back with it up in the back seat. It wasn't great though, she was in an awful lot of pain. They had to stop frequently and she had clexane in case of DVT.
