Hi all,
I'm a new member 🤗
I'm just looking for a bit of advice and was wondering if anyone else has been through this.
My 8 month old doesn't respond if anyone speaks to her, she won't look at you, turn around if you say her name, speak to her ect, she will laugh, squeal and makes grunting noises but she doesn't babble.
She seems to enjoy all visual and physical things but musical and verbal she just blanks us.
She is hitting all her milestones but she doesn't seem to copy you either i.e sticking her tongue out ect.
She has been referred for another hearing test she passed the one she got at birth.
I'm looking to see if anyone else has been through this, it's such a worry until she has been for the test I have 2 other children 11 and 7 and they were both perfectly fine.
Deafness doesn't run in either side.

😊😀

Sorry I didn’t want to read & run. She sounds like a happy little one, and she is still so young so I wouldn’t worry about mimicking you & speech so young. You’re right to get her hearing checked & perhaps chat to your GP about your concerns

8 months is very young to worry about something not being right.
That being said your instinct is the most important tool you have and if you feel she’s different from your other children then definately follow up with gp etc.
autism comes to mind but really she might just be slower to develop social skills than your other two

Trust your instincts and ask your health visitor or GP

Hi everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to reply 😊.

She had her 8 month check with the health visitor and she has referred her for a hearing test, the health visitor was the one to raise the concerns I just thought it was her personality but seeing how concerned the health visitor was it's now made me feel so guilty I didn't act on it before now the health visitor recommended going to her gp to check for blockages so I took her and her ear canals are clear he thinks it is hearing loss but can't confirm because he can only do basic tests so we just need to wait on the appointment coming through. I did think about autism too but she's a bit young for worrying about that yet.

I just have a feeling there is something wrong wether it is hearing loss or something else.

I'm trying not to worry too much as you all have said she is only 8 months and every child is different.

Thank you again for replying 😊

Yes ds failed his eight month hearing test having passed his newborn one. He has perfect hearing but has autism. Dd has autism and passed her hearing test just for reassurance.
