Does this look infected?

It's my daughters elbow and she's running a high temp a couple of hours after Calpol.
Will pop into Pharmacist tomorrow morning if she still has temp and isn't at school.

Does this look infected?

Draw a ring around the red area. If it gets bigger, I'd be off asap.

Yes it does

the wound itself doesn't look too bad, just like a scab that has been picked on, as children do...
anything other than a fever? a cold?
agree, draw around the red to see if it's spreading and keep an eye on her. a&e if she's getting worse.

Hard to tell from that photo. I mean yes, redness can be a sign of infection (especially if it's also hot to the touch) but that area of red skin looks a little scaly, like brand new skin after a scab has recently fallen off?

Can you see any pus oozing around the edges of the scab?

I'd be inclined to think the fever is unrelated because I don't think an infection that small - if it is infected - would cause a temp rise. But I'm not a HCP and should be taken with a pinch of salt Smile

Do get it checked by the pharmacist though.

thanks everyone. I'll draw a ring round it. her brother has just had a nasty viral infection so it could be something different entirely. Although she normally doesn't get anything more than a cold. her other arm is in a cast so I suspect she may have been picking at it as her arm is resting that way and the bandage on the cast is non to clean now (after 4 weeks)

It does look like it's been picked at before the scab was ready to come off and that's why the skin is so red. Sounds like she's been in the wars, poor thing!

That's a very thick scab on the top.

It's hard to tell in the picture, i don't think it looks infected yet but I would pop into the pharmacy tomorrow for some germaline and further advice.

There's been no puss from her arm and it looks a lot less red this morning. So will pop to pharmacist and see if I can get a Cream for her. Complaining of a sore throat this morning with high temp so think it may be a virus. Her brother had a sore throats and ears last week x
