DD (8) had tonsils and adenoids out last April due to obstructive sleep apnea- that solved the problem.
I'm sure she has perennial rhinitis and I give her cetirizine 5mg twice a day - gp wasn't particularly helpful - but now she is very congested at night again. Nothing coming out when she blows her nose. Laying on her side helps. She's had a cold but I think she's over it - can anyone help with this awful congestion at night?

The best thing we have found for my daughter is steam inhalation and nasal sprays for unblocking sinuses. we also use sudafed but it might be for over 12's.
I would also try and prop top of bed up with blankets or towels under the pillows.
Have you tried olbas oil on cotton wool near the bed or the Vicks plug ins are good.

Beconase is what they recommend now for sinuses, the doctor need to prescribe it for under 18 though.

My DD had similar when she was 10 with sleep apnea having tonsils and adenoids out and turbinates reduced which sorted the problem. Now if she gets a cold she always gets a blocked nose that doesn't shift easily. The best thing for her was something the consultant recommended pre op but still works well post op: boiled cooled water (one cup) with half teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda and half teaspoon of salt and syringe up nose holding head over sink. Seems to remove the gunk well. Hope this helps
