They're driving him nuts tonight. Have all appeared in last 24 hours. He has had the occasional one, in the past, but never this many and so irritating. They don't look like dandruff, or anything else I've googled. Can't see any eggs or lice. Will give him some PIrit on. Anyone got any ideas?

Any spots anywhere else? Chicken pox?

Yellow crust is often impetigo? Very contagious.

Has had chicken pox but I'll check him anyway. Hadn't thought of impetigo; they're not big patches, just random bumps with a head on. He's had them very occasionally in the past (he's 10 now) bit usually only two or three maximum. Thanks for the ideas, keep them coming.

Hmm not sure about impetigo, there aren't any red patches. Just bumps with itchy head.

In muggy weather like we're having at the moment, my eldest's head (upon which he has quite thick hair) can get a bit hot and sticky (nice!). This sometimes causes raised patches of yellow, dry skin to form on his head.

We've started using head and shoulders on his hair which works a treat and gets rid of them all - but we also ensure his hair is cut more regularly than normal during the summer.

don't know, but following, as my son gets one or two from time to time. particularly if his hair is a bit long (he has very thick hair). sometimes he's knocked/ scratched one till it has bled.

It could be seborrheic dermatitis or eczema. Try Nizoral shampoo.

That's interesting mine my boy has patches of eczema on his skin so that makes sense but the spots on his scalp look so different!

I get this. No idea what it is but i find Head & Shoulders seems to keep it at bay.

Thanks for the messages. Poor kid has about 12 of the blighters now, just hard bumps with yellow head on them. Very itchy. The rest of the skin is fine, no redness or dry patches - they're more like blocked pores or big spots with a crusty head on. Nice. I'll give him a dandruff shampoo to use today.

Hope he feels less itchy soon!
