10 year old BOY with breast pain?

My 10 year old son complained his left breast area was painful yesterday, I took a look and had a squeeze, it is tender and slightly more full and swollen than the other side. There are no obvious lumps and nothing I would describe as 'breast tissue'.

I'm obviously going to make a doctors appointment if the pain and swelling continue, but upon Googling it appears this can be something that prepubescent boys go through? Having never been around any young boys growing up I really don't know how true this is though?

My son is very tall for his age, about a size 6 shoe and he is definitely undergoing some emotional preteen changes - moodiness, 'liking' girls etc.

It is normal for boys to experience some breast discomfort during puberty. Boys can develop breast buds and a small amount of breast tissue. If it gets very painful or they get very swollen then the GP will want to check for true breast growth or gynaecomastia. If the pain is severe or lasts beyond a few days then a trip to the GP may be reassuring.

Thank you, that's pretty interesting to know. I will definitely book him an appointment during the week if the pain doesn't subside.
