Children's health

watery eyes and gunk

My DS is 12 mths and has a very heavy cold and a cough, temp is mild but he has very watery eyes and yellow gunk in the corner of each eye.

He's very tired and keeps rubbing them but I'm not sure if it's conjunctivitis or side effects of his cold. Has anyone had any experience of this? Thanks

Yep Klockie twice in a month Sad. DD also a year old and both times she had a cold. First time I took her to docs because of cold and cough, but doc more concerned about her eyes (they were red and she had yellow sticky gunk coming from both eyes). She prescribed drops which were a nightmare to get in her eyes - dh had to hold her down whilst I put the drops in. However, it did clear up. 2nd time I knew what I was dealing with and as soon as it appeared went to see the doc who prescribed the drops again. This time it cleared up much more quickly.

It helps if you can keep the eyes as clean as possible: use cooled boiled water and cotton wool to wipe the gunk away.

Thank you. I ended up going to the docs and I was prescribed eye drops and you are so right, trying to get eye drops into a one year old is a nightmare!

Thanks for the tip for keeping them clean. Grin
