It's not on the joint, but the lowest fleshy bit on his ring finger is swollen and pink.

There's no broken skin, nothing that looks like a bite and he can't remember having injured it. He can move it fine, it's just sore and annoying and hurts if it's poked.

He mentioned it last night, but said it started the day before.

I won't be able to get him a GP appointment tomorrow as you have to phone at 8.30 which is school run time and all the appointments are gone by 8.45 Angry

What would you do? it's clearly not an emergency, but it's bothering him. Keep him off school to go to walk in centre and see a nurse? or just wait and see?

Hmm - it does sound like it could be infected. Can you call the surgery tomorrow and ask to speak to the duty Dr? The chances are they'd ask you to bring him in.
Failing that I'd go to a minor injuries unit / walk in centre. You're right that A&E would be inappropriate but I would want it looked at I think.

thank you wcw.

are you an HCP? I'm just wondering how an infection could get in that part of his hand without a (visible) injury?

Get it seen tomorrow - might be cellulitis or something, best to nip that sort of thing in the bud

How's his finger? Did you get it looked at?

Hope it's all ok now.

He has an appointment for tomorrow (earliest I could get).

It's not really bothered him for a couple of days and then he complained of it hurting again this morning. It's still swollen and feels hard to touch, but doesn't look red. Weird!
