My ds2 has had a constant runny nose and on-off cough for what feels like forever.....in all honesty it's probably been since about October. What seems like constant snot for about 4 months!!

Have had him to docs on a couple of occasions when he has been poorly with it, fever etc, and once they gave antibiotics for a chest infection, but only once.

He goes to nursery 2 days a week so obviously picks stuff up there, then no sooner gets over it and he seems to have something else....

He's also teething what seems like All the time and has red raw cheeks.

I know kids pick up bugs at nursery and and its winter but really, is this normal?? He had bronchiolitis when he was tiny (12 weeks) and I worry it has left him with some underlying weakness.....

Is the snot clear? If it is he could have allergic rhinitis. My DS had this from 18 months til about 3 years. He had allergy testing when he was about 2 and had a mild delayed reaction. I was told it's quite common in LOs and they tend to grow out of it, my DS was never given anything for it and eventually it stopped.

Hi Op
I'm in exactly the same situation. 15.5mo DS also has had permanent runny nose since about October. He started nursery two days a week in September and it's been relentless since. He also had bronchiolitis as a baby and had a ventolin inhaler prescribed. When I mentioned the above to my (very good imo) GP he was not worried, said it was normal due to age, teething, nursery, time of year etc. and to dose with calpol/ibuprofen for fever and or teething and to use the inhaler if he got a cough or was wheezy. Does your DS get wheezy?

My daughter had this at the same age. She's hardly had a day sick since (she's now 6).

Thanks for replies. Not wheezy except for that one time he had bronchiolitis. He does snore something rotten though. Snot varies in colour, sometimes clear and sometimes greeny....I wondered about an allergy as sometimes it starts up very suddenly, likes turning the taps on! X

I came here to ask this! DS is 17 months, nursery 3 days a week & has been bloody ill since November.

Cold, cold, cough, cold, cough, chest infection, hand foot & mouth, cold, conjunctivitis, ear infection, cold, cough, all with thick green snot, repeat ad infinitum......

Its exhausting and so wearing, poor mite must think he'll always feel like this. His appetite goes to, I'm at a loss just to get some food into him some days. I've started giving him a multivitamin too Hmm

Normal IME. Teething can mimic a cold too so it's probably colds interspersed with teething

We're waiting on upper & lowers canines still, can see them in the gum but they've been there months. Other teeth gave very few problems. It's the constant chesty cough I worry about but gp always says its viral.

Cakebaby I know it's just relentless isn't it? It must be so awful for them, I just seem to be constantly hovering with yet another tissue....plus all my clothes get covered in snot within minutes of putting them on!
