Anyone had a child with a clubfoot?

My DS (now almost 7 months) was born with one club foot. He had the Ponsetti plaster cast method from 5 days old and surgery to cut the tendon at 8 weeks. He then had to wear boots and brace for 12 weeks all the time, and is now down to just nighttime. The issue is that we think the brace is affecting his sleep at night. He wakes frequently and often seems uncomfortable, particularly since he started to roll in the daytime, and appears to want to lie on his side at night, which is obviously hard with the brace on. The thought of this terrible sleep for the next 3 1/2 years is a nightmare. Has anyone else been through this? The physio suggested he just have a brace for the affected foot, but the consultant said it's not possible at the moment because he's growing so rapidly, and it would need replacing every couple of months. Any advice/ positive stories would be much appreciated as we're all exhausted!

Try this site at Google ' Club foot Ponseti method by someone one called Dr Andrew Hogg. He made a video. It doesn't seem to have been necessary to use surgery at all with this method.
He may still be somewhere in the UK . You could get a second opinion.

I think he's already had the surgery, so that's not much help.

I can't help really with that, but you may well find that he gets more used to it, and settles more into one position at night. Two of mine went through a stage at about that age of being really wriggly at night, and as they got older they stopped.

I don't know about the brace and how it's made, but I would ask again. My dd2 was born without a hand and had a prosthesis from 6 months, and yes, it did need replacing about every 3 months the first couple of times, but after that it lasted 6 months, and I think around aged 3yo it was closer to 9 months most of the time. So they may be happy to consider just the brace when he's a bit older.

Yes, he's already had the surgery and the brace is to prevent relapse. I hope he settles down with his sleeping soon! And yes, they said we could think about the separate brace when he's a bit older. Thanks!
