Six year old boy with BO??

I've only noticed this once, but I went to kiss DS goodnight the other night and he stank! He's only six :( Is it something I should be worried about? I've googled but it brings up a lot of results about girls and one website said if boys show any signs of puberty at all before nine they should see a doctor.

We make sure he showers regularly but it's possible he had skipped washing his armpits a couple of times, but it was a definite adult/teenagery BO sort of smell, not a musty unwashed kid smell.

Just wondered if others had noticed anything like this or if it was normal?

I will be interested on replies to this as my 7 year old Ds has recently emitted some strong smells from his armpits ?? I had put it down to a hormone rush they get at around 7 but don't know !!

Hi, I'm not sure if I'm going to help here but here goes. I have a son with a condition with which precocious puberty often occurs.

I've just noticed the BO smell on him at 7, and told his endocrinologist at our last appointment. She told me very definitely that 7 for a boy is within the normal range of adrenarche for a boy (my understanding is adrenarche is a sort of slight precursor to proper puberty, and involves different hormones - from the adrenal glands rather than the pituitary gland).

However, in a sort of 'manual' for his condition, produced in the US, which I've read since, it says 'Officially, adrenarche is defined as early if it occurs before 8 years in girls and 9 years in boys.'

So I'm a bit confused about it really (but will ask at our next appointment).

I would say it's probably worth going to your GP and just asking their opinion.

OK, thanks Latin. We're in Germany so it will be a paediatrician, I expect they'll know whether it's normal or not :)
