Croup again and again and again

Hi
My 10 month old has croup for the fifth time. He's had middle of the night trip to A&E and several lots of steroids, and a few episodes where he just got better of his own accord.
I'm aware that this could continue recurring for years. Just wondered if anyone had any tips or tricks to share?
I know about rescue steroid doses, steamy rooms and taking them outside.
Thanks, hate seeing him struggle and trying to decide if we need to take the 40 minute trip to A&E when I'm bleary eyed!

Ds1 was like this. Every month from 7 months old.
It only stopped when he was put on a steroid inhaler (clenil modulite), but that only happened because there is a strong history of asthma in both sides of the family.
Since then he has occasionally had blips, but nothing like he used to.

Might be worth discussing with his GP.

Well, I am not sure if its quite the same but my DGS had a really bad virus just before his 1st birthday last year, and in the following 6 months had coughs/colds/ raging temperatures virtually every 2-3 weeks. My DD finally went and asked at the doctors for asthma relief as was suggested by his nursery key worker. He is now absolutely fine on the inhaler. - Just 1 trip to a and e with an attack in the last year. They cannot diagnose it as asthma until they are 5/6 , but Doctor said the initial virus had not been able to clear properly and so every little bug got in. Hope you get help :)

Oh that is useful I hadn't considered an inhaler. I'll have a read about that and a chat with the GP. No asthma on either side but still might help.

Thanks all.

Ds2 is a croupy baby.

Everytime he gets a cold or bug he makes the croupy noises as a symptom of that bug iyswim.

He's only had 2 full on a&e episodes.

I've no tips but I am noticing as he gets older its settling down and becoming less frequent (crosses fingers).

I've found if it gets to the stage he's making the noises when breathing normally no amount of steam, cool air or anything else helps.
