School with a temp?

Hi guys just wondered if you would or have sent your child to school with a slight temperature. Ds had temp of 38.4 but has come down to 35.7 with cal pol. He is currently sitting watching Mickey Mouse eating wot sits. He seems ok in himself a little quiter than usual and a little disturbed through night but that was mainly thanks to his ds who is teething. We have a very busy day ahead, signing for new house etc we can work around him being off obviously he comes first. Should I send him in with some cal pol for teach to give at lunch I needed he is asking to go to school don't know what I do for the best?

No you risk infecting the rest if the class . This might be the start if something else . i would keep him at home and see how he is .

That's what I was thinking. Tbh he has been so ill this year already with tonsillitis and 2 ear infections to date one of which took 2 lots of antibiotics to clear a days rest (ish) wouldn't do him any harm I just worry about his attendance levels due to prior illness

No, he might be infectious. Also if he gets worse you'll have to go and get him & presumably that would be more inconvenient.

Well yes it's not ideal to have to go school in middle of the day but sod the new house if my boy needs me I am there everything else can wait x I should mention due to his autism he get very stressed when taken out of routine so there is that to consider too

Oh well, if he actually felt hot, then I would say no school then, sorry.

That is not just a slight fever; he is ill. I would never send a child with a fever to school, even if the fever got better with Calpol.

Also, I would feed him soup and other healthy liquids. I think that eating healthy food helps people to feel better and to recover faster.

I would send him. If I kept my children off every time they had a slight sniffle, felt hot etc they would never be there so I would judge it on whether they seem well enough. Same with work - there are some folk who are always off ...

Ds has a very limited diet due to sensory issues so that's not always an option unfortunately x

He is currently running around the house naked and has eaten his porridge and orange. Could temp have been cos he slept with us last night?

Temp is more core body temperature, so not us much because of being warm on the outside, IYSWIM.

Would the Calpol still be having an effect?

As far as I know schools won't administer Calpol. Whenever DD had a temperature it used to rocket up so quickly that she used to shiver violently. She even had a febrile convulsion once and stopped breathing, so for me, a temperature used to set alarm bells off and I never sent her to school with a temperature.

I wouldn't equate a temperature with a slight sniffle. I sent DD to school with plenty of colds, but a temperature always signified something more serious so I kept her at home.

Ds is in specialist school so they will give meds at parent request.

Did you take the temp soon after he woke? Tbh if he seems fine in himself I would send him but mention it to teacher at drop off. I have a cold and have a horrid cold but life goes on.
I keep them off fir sickness, anything Der contagious like chickenpox etc but a temp that responded to calpol and otherwise we'll threefold go.

I also don't have a thermometer tho, so they would have felt a bit warm but if they seemed fine I wouldn't have necessarily given calpol.

Nhs guideline is to keep children with fevers at home.
