Tongue tie

My DS has been diagnosed with tongue tie, he's currently 5wks and we're keen to get it checked properly (diagnosis has been woolly and varies across the midwives/health visitors who have seen him) and treated before he gets much older.

Please can anyone with experience help point me in the direction of someone who can help? I've been looking online but not quite sure of the best way forward.

Our health visitor has been next to useless and apparently 'can't' recommend a practitioner Hmm and it seems we can't get it sorted on the NHS, so the midwife wasn't able to help either. We're happy to go private, we just want to get it sorted before it causes any more problems (it's already got in the way of breast feeding).

Thanks in advance for any help.

if you have a look on the laction consultants website www.lcgb.org/ You will be able to find a board certified lactation consultant in your area who it's qualified to cut tounge ties.

And good luck

Thanks Mig, will take a look there. You'd think the health visitor would have been able to tell me that, but apparently not!

I'd also suggest IBCLC and you could try asking here too... Tongue tie facebook group

Are you anywhere near Malcolm Levinkind in North London or John Roberts in Huddersfield?

They are both dentists who have trained with Dr Kotlow and use laser to revise tongue ties and lip ties if appropriate. It costs more than having a snip by a lactation consultant, but it's what I would have chosen if I had DS1's baby days over again.

HCPs are not terribly knowledgeable about tongue tie on the whole I'm afraid, unless they have taken a specialist interest. I am not surprised to hear that they are a bit useless.

Thanks all. I've had a good look at the sites suggested and came across Ann Dobson. She's talked about in very positive terms across tinterweb and parenting forums so I think she's a good place to start. Calling her today to find out more about her and what she thinks.

I've heard good things about Ann, although she was unable to help me as my DD was too old by then (18mths). Good luck, hope it all goes well.
