Perthes disease?

Hi my middle son has a chromosome abnormality that often results in very poor health hence our routine visit to the paediatrician today. Anyway whilst there she was checking his feet, he is v flat footed, and I mentioned he has been limping on and off and complaining of pain in his right knee. When she laid him down and checked him he has much reduced inward rotation of his right leg and she is certain there is a problem with his hip and mentioned Perthes disease. I am desperate to google but previous experience is telling me its a baaaad idea!

We are off for a hip x-ray on Thursday, and I just wondered if anyone had any experience and if his symptoms sound similar.

He is 9 btw.

Thanks Smile

My cousin had this. But it was 30 years ago. And she was diagnosed aged 2. Corrected by surgery and 8 weeks in a cast.
She is fine now. Sport. Children etc.

Hope someone with more recent experience comes along.

Wish you all the best.

Thanks LadySmile, it's good to hear your cousin recovered well.
I think I'm going to have to consult dr google Wink!

We went through all that with my DD, it turned out she needed orthotic inserts in her shoes and did not have perthes disease.

I hope it all goes well.

Irritable hip (not serious but needs rest) also gives similar symptoms. Think ultrasound scan would confirm this. Xray may not show perthes in early stages - need radioactive contrast scan I think. Good luck.
