Please help me - i'm at my wits end :(

My DS is 25 weeks and ebf. I cut out wheat, gluten and dairy and he's been fine until about 4 weeks ago where he suddenly developed itchy skin everywhere and he gouges holes in himself. I hadn't changed anything and use no bio washing powder. I took him to a paediatrician who said it was nothing in my milk as it would have shown by now, and it perhaps could be a developmental thing i.e. he will grow out of it.

But it's escalating and the rash is everywhere bar his legs. The only thin he doesn't have is nappy rash! I try to minimise his discomfort - oatmeal baths help, I use Oilatum four times a day and use silk scratch mitts - after he rubbed the skin away on his face using cotton ones!

We have an appointment in May with a skin specialist but until then, how can I help him in the middle of the night when he's crying and thrashing because his skin is so itchy? i've tried loads of combos of vest, blankets and gro bags trying to keep him cool!

I'd go back to the GP to see if there's anything more they can prescribe. Poor little mite has eczema and it's very difficult for him and you. There are stronger creams you can use, including the occasional use of steroid creams to reduce really bad inflammation. Wet wrapping is another treatment, ask your doctor about it. In some areas Health Visitors can prescribe and are experts in eczema.
