Hearing loss/adenoids/grommets - please help!

DD (5) diagnosed this afternoon with glue ear, she's not been hearing well for quite a while but doc said we can wait and see or go for grommets and/or adenoids out.

I was on my own with DD and it was quite a long appointment so I didn't have much chance to think about it/ask questions and now I don't really know what I need to make a decision. I'm sure plenty of people have been in same situation, what do I need to think about/research?

Also, what should I expect from her school? She's not behind and her speech seems ok.

This leaflet is great to pass on to school - she may not be behind but it may be very tiring and some of the suggestions may help.

This one has about what to expect for Surgical Management of Glue Ear

I have had 3 ds's who've needed multiple grommets, no speech delay very very few infections but needed help at school/nursery.
All are hearing impaired at the moment - I'm finding there is very little support
ds2 was recommended to have adenoids and tonsils out - we didn't want that and cut dairy and they reduced in size.

Some people on here have opted for hearing aids but I'm struggling to get these for boys - I think an op is cheaper with less follow up care Sad
Other things that we're trying osteopathy, homeopathy, diet change, probiotics (essential if lots of infections and ab's)
About to try Otovent balloon...

Understand what her hearing level is and what that means to her 'impairment' - ours were really struggling (hearing 40-50db and labelled 'severe/chronic glue ear') that might help you decide what intervention to use

Hope that helps
