Hi has anyones DD been under the care of Dr D Thompson, neurosurgeon at Great Ormond St? If so, what was your experience? My DS just been referred for possible surgery and i really need reassurance that we are in the right hands 'no punn intended'. Very worried mum, so any advice would help. Thanks

I haven't any experience of neurosurgery at GOSH but my youngest was there for other reasons at 6 months old. My other son has had neurosurgery at Addenbrookes for a brain tumour. Whilst waiting to see which hospital had a bed for him it was going to be either Addenbrookes or GOSH. Both hospitals are considered to be excellent (as other hospitals are too) so I would feel confident my child was being sent there.

HTH

Ask on the special needs children board, there are lots with experience of GOSH there, I'm sure some have experience of neurosurgery there.

He is my ds's neurosurgeon though he didn't actually do his surgery but was highly recommended by the bloke who did.

DS2 had VP shunt put in by neurosurgeon at GOSH. She's left and we've been recommended Dr D Thompson by a doctor friend who works at GOSH in different area.

Hopefully DS2's shunt continues to work fine but we'll be going with Dr Thompson if any problems arise. Would be interested in your feedback if you decide to go with him.

I loved the neurosurgeon who did DS2's operation and am convinced it was her skill that gave him such a great outcome. I think any neurosurgeon at GOSH would be really good at what they do.

He's brilliant, takes the tricky referrals from other hosps - we are under GOSH for multiple issues and he has operated on many of my friend's children, if my dd needed neurosurgery (prob for chiari) I would be happy for him to do it

Thank you all for your feedback. I will chk out the special needs board, if i can find it on here.
We are waiting on angio results so will know more as to surgery. Will let you know how that goes.
You get told these places are 'centres of excellence' but i think sometimes that can be a smoke screen. Already had issues with poor administration and communication !
