My 10 year old Dd has been experiencing permanent headache and double vision for 4 weeks now. We were admitted to hospital and we have had CT scan, MRI and a lumbar puncture :-( which was not nice. The good news is that all the tests were clear.
Prior to this her eye sight was perfect. We only found out today that the MRI was clear. The neurologist now thinks that they are migraine related. Particularly Ophthalmoplegic migraines. We have been prescribed medication which so far has not worked but it's only day 3, and they need to find the correct dosage for her.
This has got to have been the worst 4 weeks of our lives and I'm still worried sick, andwill be until the headaches actually go and the eye sight is back to normal. I hope they are just migraines.
I started getting them at around 11 at school. The first one was really horrible, terrible headache until I could barely see, then sickness. I have suffered from them since, but second posters above saying definitely get her checked out. Before I got migraines at that age I don't think I had ever had a headache.
I started getting them at 9 - they must have (in my unprofessional opinion ) hormonal related because they stopped around age 20 and then I only had them during pregnancy. I can still remember my first - feel ill at the thought so am very very sympathetic to your poor little DD
My dd7yrs got migraines soo often it would interrupt her school... The slightest noise, even talking would get her in tears. Sore head...etc.etc.
It got to the point I took medicine tylenol to school and informed her teachers if she started to complain about a sore head to keep an eye on her... She knew when it got bad enough to go ask for medicine.
Lucky for us, the migraines have slowed down now...!
Hi i really dont want to worry you but hey in the long term ?? my friend little girl ages 10 recently told me she had been having lots of headaches and blurred vision took her to GP who said migraines and gave her a steriod spray3 months later she started having dizzy spells and earache. took her to A&E and she had a brain tumour if she had left it any longer it would have been terminal thankfully it was benign and removed effectively. BUT THE STAFF SAID any child with recurring headaches should be seen by a qualified PAD not a GP. hope it is just migraines but better safe than sorry xx
I'd go to the Doctor with her. My eyesight goes odd with a migraine aura but I don't get the headache. But the aura is gone within an hour. If her eyesight is blurry a day later and the headache is coming and going then it really is best to get her checked out sooner rather than later. For reasurrance and just in case. Make sure she's drunk enough fluids too - holiday time kids get out of their routine and sometimes don't drink at the usual times. Hope she feels better soon.
Yes it is entirely possible. My DD has been having them since she was 7 and is 9 now. After they recently cycled up to around 5 a month the GP switch from treating them to prevention with pizotefen every night which seems to be working really well. Migraine UK has a really good section on migraine in children.
Hello all. My lil girl has been getting headaches fairly frequently. At first I thought she was getting viruses as she has complained of feeling sick and has looked pale for a few days each time but no temp.
However last night she got out of bed to tell us she yet again had a headache but this time felt dizzy and her eyes were blurry and everything looked swollen. We gave her nurofen and she was fine but woke up looking pale and unable to see properly (blurry and swollen vision). By lunchtime her headache was returning but I think we nipped it in the bud by giving her nurofen straight away??? This has now alerted me to migraines. I've never had one myself and it's not in our family but could she be suffering? She's going through a few hormonal changes at the mo - could this be causing them?
She tells us that her vision has not returned to normal today. Is that normal for a migraine or should I be really worried about this? We had her eyes tested about 6 mths ago and all is fine. I'll check again though. Does anyone have experience of this? Thanks all.
