A few weeks back my 18 month old son had a chest infection so gp gave him antibiotics just after Xmas we noticed he had a rash around his mouth and a few spots on his hands and feet, that has all cleared up now but just yesterday we noticed his finger tips were peeling. A family member said it could have been hand foot and mouth disease but the spots wasn't inside his mouth or on the palms of his hands or the souls of his feet so I didn't think it was that, he is fine in himself but just curious and wondering if I should take him bk to gp ?

Mine peeled there after scarlet fever. Was the rash like sandpaper?

Have a look at this page and, if you think he has the symptoms take him to GP or OOH doctor tomorrow. I'm sure it's very unlikely but just in case.

Goldmandra, have had a look at this and none if the symptoms are what he has had, thankfully, so I think I can rule that out, thank you though x

Have noticed today that his toes are also very slightly peeling, more like dry skin at the moment, not as bad as his fingers.

I have only ever seen my DD's feet peeling when she had athlete's foot. Never her fingers though. I wonder if it could be a fungal infection. Perhaps see if a pharmacist recognises it?

Fluffy101 I think I can rule out fifth disease as the rash wasn't on his cheeks, nor was it blotchy, it was pimple like spots and a few scabby ones, thanx for your input though :) x

Someone I know mentioned that it's common to have peeling fingers and toes after a viral infection ? does anyone agree as i could possibly put it down to the chest infection he had a few weeks back if this is true.

This is maybe not relevant, but after I had an infection earlier this year I had a rash all over. Not itchy. Then it went but peeled off all over, including hands and soles of feet.

V weird, but then just went as new skin came. Nurse reckons was due to the infection, but no harm done. Took ages to stop peeling tho!

my DS had hand, foot and mouth. It didn't affect his mouth at all, he mainly had spots on his legs and fingers. The ones on his hands split and became open and sore (not helped by him putting them in his mouth). Not all children have the same symptoms.
