My dd needs to go and see an optometrist at our usual children's hospitals ( attended due to complex needs) I thought fine check her eyes were in then out ...... No! They have to use 2 lots of eye drops the first set to numb her eyes because the second ones sting otherwise, the numbing effect can reach the back f the throat so she can't eat anything hot for a few hours and the second lot blur her vision for up to 24hrs. Making a normally really unsteady child even more clumbsy in her feet! I'm dreading it we have to wait an hour before they will even check her eyes! My dd is only 2! I'm half wanting to cancel
It as it is just a precautionary test to rule out conditions associated to a condition she already has. But she seems fine! WWUD???

my son had some drops that made his pupils much bigger and slightly clumsier- but they did wear off. we were not warned about them though. he was 3, they were looking at his squint he has. it cannot have been traumatic or i would remember it more- he is very sensitive.

To be honest I'd have it done - 24hrs to wear off isn't that long to check that your child doesn't have a certain condition... but no one on here knows your dd, her needs and what you want/can cope with - you have to feel comfortable with it.

Hi Piglettsmummy, our DC has been going to the Eye Hosp for many years and has eye drops each time. You'll be better off having them now so as if your DD has any issues, they can set about making corrections now whilst she is still young. The reason why they do it is because at that age, your DD can't tell the docs what they can and can't see. As they get older, children can read the charts and so the drops are not needed as much.
I would definitely not delay for fear of eye drops. As you say, your DC has associated conditions so best rule out the eye ones sooner rather than later, and the Eye Drops do wear off. Hope that's helpful.
