Can someone help me work out how much Calpol I can give my DS?

DS is 12.5 months old and woke yesterday evening with a temp of 40.8 which eventually went down to 39.4 after 5ml of Calpol and 2.5ml of ibuprofen. It was still high during the night so had another 5ml of Calpol at 3am.

Took him to dr this morning and was berated for not giving DS the full dose of Calpol - it says 5-10ml for age 1-3 on the box. His ears were a bit pink but dr said no need for antibiotics. Told to go home, give him 10ml of Calpol and 2.5ml of Ibuprofen if needed.

So, he had 10ml of Calpol at 10am, by 12.30pm his temp had shot up again and he was shaking so gave him the ibuprofen. This had no effect so gave another 10ml of Calpol at 2pm which lowered his temp enough for the shaking to stop. However, it's now 5.30 and his temp is now 40deg and the Calpol box says I can only give 4 doses a day which he has had. I obviously don't want to overdose him but what do I do?

He has only had 30ml in total so should be fine with another 10ml now.
Give the ibuprofen too as it might help him feel better even if it doesn't bring his temp down.

Thankyou, I actually rushed him up to the Drs straight after I posted as he went very limp and they're testing him for a urine infection and also clarified how much meds I can give him.

Was about to post to query uti.

For reference its best to stick to giving meds every 3 hours IN MY EXPERIENCE, so:

10am: calpol
1pm; nurofen
4pm ; calpol

And so on so you shouldn't be left with a big gap where you can't give anything. Check the nurofen tho as I can't remember if its 3 or 4 times a day for his age.

Hope he feels better soon. Always trust your instincts though - if a temp is uncontrollable with meds with my kids its always been a bacterial infection.
