Eyes - Prescription Glasses for a 1 yr old

Hi

I am new to this so hope i do this correctly. We noticed a problem with my daughter's eyes a few months ago and were referred to the eye clinic at our local hospital.

Long story short, she's going to need glasses and will be wearing them long term.

I've had the prescription, and been to my local opticians, but they only had a choice of two frames which had the 'wrap around' ear loops which she will need.

Does anyone have any advice:

1. are there any particular 'baby' frames that people recommend from their own experience? maybe a name of a manufacturer i could contact?
   

1. how do you get a one year old to sit still and allow an eye examine to take place and be measured for glasses?
   

Thanks for your help. I've been trawling through the internet and found virtually nothing for infant glasses.

To be honest I'd just trawl round as many opticians locally as possible.. there aren't a LOT of options for babies and frankly you do NOT want to spend anything extra as believe me they will be broken SO many times over the next year or so!

My DS2 started wearing glasses at 6 months of age.. with the curled ears. You do need those as otherwise they just fall off when crawling. Usually most opticians will prescribe a second pair as well for babies due to the high breakage factor:)

Presumably if you have the prescription then the main work has been done and it's just a case of fitting them..doesn't take long.. take toy/dummy :)

I was very sad when my DS2 needed them but they quickly became part of his lovely face and now I can't imagine him any other way:):)

We went to a local optician, not a chain. DH trawled round a few locals ones, asking initial questions about what they'd suggest for a 2 year old. The one optician that pulled out a catalogue, and suggested a few styles that they'd found worked well with other toddlers got our custom.

Once DS was wearing glasses (with rounded ears and a built up nose bridge), the hospital prescribed another pair. That has now stopped, as he is 4 so the hospital won't do it anymore. We still have rounded wire earpieces though, as I think 4 year olds shouldn't have to worry about their activities being hampered by glasses.

We had to pay some extra money over and above the prescription for the glasses though.
