Toddler with nits

What do I do? The daughter has been treated twice in the past 3 weeks with anti-nit stuff, but they keep coming back.

The pharmacist advised against using the stuff too often, we also tried smothering her hair with normal conditioner.

It's very difficult to get her to sit still to use the knit comb on her. She used to love having her haird done, and wearing pig tails etc, ever since the first episode of headlice she hates it.

I'm not entirely sure whether we just suck at getting rid of themm or whether she keeps getting re-infected at nursery.

How do I explain to her that she needs to hold still and the nit comb is used to help her? It's really difficult to do a thorough job with a struggling to year old. Really don't want to have to shave her head!

nits are such a PITA
I've found that you have to comb twice a day even after putting the stuff on, for at least a week and then every day for another week.

I'd happily do that, I just wish she'd make it easier. :-(

She could be being re-infested, but if you haven't got them all first time round, then there may have been eggs that have hatched.
Is her hair long - would you consider having it shorter? Might be easier to comb out.
Tea tree shampoo once you've got rid helps some kids from re-infestation.

I used bribery - normally sweets in front of a dvd while combing

Loads and loads of conditioner when combing - the leave in kind so you do'nt have to keep rinsing (and then you can do it in the bath, if she likes playing in the bath, good distraction - just make sure you don't rinse her hair in nitty water!).

I used Hedrin Once on dd (4) and nothing survived - I re-treated and combed, but all I ever got out was one or two dead baby lice, nothing alive. Worth a try? Its supposed to kill eggs too.

Nitty gritty with lots of leave in conditioner.

Bribe with dvd of choice.

Its just on off those things that has to be done.
