High Temp in children

Has anyone else heard that new research shows that tepid sponging or bathing of child with high temperature is not a good idea. This is because you are causing the body to cool too quickly which makes them shiver which in turn makes the body work harder to heat up which causes another temp phew

I have to say I have never done it anyway. If I think of how I feel with a temp it just seems too cruel. Now you've posted this I can consider it totally pointless anyway.

TBH I don't try to reduce DC's temps unless they are very high anyway because it's part of the body's mechanism for fighting viruses. They've never had febrile convulsions so I don't worry about it unless they feel uncomfortable enough to mention it.

Yes, I also read somewhere there's a chance you can induce shock if the temperature drops too quickly. Don't know if it's true. I certainly wouldn't use this technique. But would cool them by taking clothes off and possibly put a fan on in the room if it's too hot - but not directly on them.
