3.11yo, red itchy bottom, thrush? Can I put canesten cream on it?

DD1 (3.11) said her bottom was itchy. She was indicating the front (said where she wees from) so I had a look tonight - it looks quite red all round the front especially but also the vagina. It's a bit smelly too Blush but then she's not had a bath since Monday Blush as her sister's been ill and she's not great at wiping...

Feeling v guilty but wondering if it's thrush? No discharge that I've seen but red and itchy is usually how it starts? I have a vague memory that the external cream can be used on children but can't find any info online. Anyone happen to know? Otherwise, I might try NHS Direct but have just been on hold for 35 mins and we want to put them to bed soon.

I've got sudacrem which I could try but I know that doesn't do a huge amount.

Worms at the front? I thought that would be more round the anus? Which doesn't look as red and which she says isn't itchy?

I would try sudocrem first.DD was prescribed canesten for thrush when she was about 4 - it was the 1% one. I wouldnt use it without consulting a doctor first though.

Right I've checked through my diary and seen that she was prescribed canesten 1% cream for thrush last year, that's where the memory was from. But I've thrown that out and onlyhave the 2% stuff in the house so don't want to use that.

Will try sudacrem tonight and maybe go to pharmacist tomorrow if she's still itching.

Ooh x-posted there Seona!

yes our gp prescribed it over phone on basis of my description but not sure if it's prescription only. Will ask pharmacist tomorrow if she is still saying it's sore.

DH is bathing the girls now and so hopefully that plus some sudacrem will be enough for tonight and it's nothing more serious than bad hygiene this week Blush
