Hearing loss after cold?

DD 5 had a nasty cold with fever and coughing for the last 3 weeks. She is much better now - just coughing occasionally. But she has significant hearing loss.

We took her to gp last week. She has no pain or fever and there was only a slight possible redness in one ear. He gave her antibiotics which she has now finished. No change in hearing loss at all so we will go back to the gp.

Anyone else had this? Did it just clear up after a while - how long? Does it need any other treatment?

School is going to be interesting - her teacher has been off sick and they have an assortment of stand-ins.

My DD had this following colds when she was 2/3 years old. Happened every time and used to take about 3 weeks to clear up.

My DS has this and it's glue ear. When kids are little their middle ear tube is horizontal and quite narrow and when they get a cold the mucus can't run out of it, so gets bunged up and so they can't hear. DS has had it since he was born, and it's very common. Cranial osteopathy can help, but if it's an ongoing problem and speech or school are affected you might need to consider gromits.

Thanks. I'll see if it clears up in 2-3 weeks and if not go back to the gp.
