DS, 6 months old, has Bronchiolitis and blood in his snot?

Sorry for the blunt term but not sure how else to put it!

Saw GP on Friday and DS has anti-biotics but not much improvement so far, and the last couple have days have seen him become quite snuffly and runny-nosed. Yesterday and today however, his snot has been blood-streaked. Not much, in fact initially I thought he'd scratched his face just under his nose but it appears not.

He isn't coughing too much and not particulary violently either but I guess both coughing and sneezing could cause the blood?

Any advice? Do I need to get this checked out?

Antibiotics won't do anything for bronchi as it is a virus. Normally it is at it's worst between days 3 and 5 then starts improving.

I always get bloody snot when I have any sort of cold!

Dr did say only about 20% of cases are bacterial but said due to snow etc to start him on the antibiotics just incase as we are becoming increasingly snowed in.

Glad to hear you've had the snot thing too, thanks :)

If it is 'streaks' of blood in snot then nothing to worry about! The veins in babies nose are very small and prone to rupture from coughing and sneezing.

Any proper nose bleeds should get seen to.
