Is this normal?

DS started nursery in September and has seemed to have been plagued by constant illness since then - particularly a number of colds in the last 6 weeks. This is having a real impact on his sleep, we have probably had a few weeks of sleeping through (7 - 5) in the last few months and the rest of the time various degrees of unsettled. I am always conforting him to sleep when he wakes and he is back to having one feed at night. At the moment he has a cold and cough - the cough seems to be causing him to wake but he often takes a long time to resettle back in his cot - and will wake fequently when being put down or even five minutes after - even if he is awake when he is put in his cot. REall just want to check that this is normal - repeating the mantra - this too shall pass at the mo!

I could have written your post - going through the exact same thing over the last six weeks. I've gone back to work and DS's nanny has been taking him to playgroups every day so picking up a lot of germs. In the end I've taken him to the docs for antibiotics but he's got worse so taking him back today to make sure it's not an ear infection or chest infection.

I'm hoping it'll pass too but I feel so sorry for him and I'm knackered!

Its very normal

  • how old is he?

When I went back to work and DD to nursery we had 3months of constant illness. She and I had everything. Inc tonsilitis, chest infection x2, D&V x2, 3 or 3 colds, conjunctivitis x2 etc etc. I've never been so ill either.

All good now- Iam back to full immunity and she is doing well to avoid most bugs.

It will improve I promise

dd2 has had snot, cough, snot, vomit snot, runny poo, snot, conjunctivitis, snot, cough, snot...........since about the end of September!

She now comes to see me with a tissue and shouts "nose nose" or brings the thermometer shouting "beep beep".

Dd1 is 3.5 and now seems immune to the majority of the bugs her little sis brings home.

It is totally normal - and does indeed improve, though is rubbish for them and you right now.

Hope your lo gets back to sleeping better soon - have you got some Olbas Oil (or similar) to keep his nose clear at night?

He has just turned 1. Glad it's normal - some of my family have suggested CC - but he is obviously not feeling right - so I personally feel he needs the cuddles!

my dd has not been well since she started nursery. constant coughs and colds. my mil told me to put a few drops of tea tree oil on her in the morning as it would help clear any infections she has and stop her getting more. she is just down to a runny nose now.
