3yo yellow water 'poo' - advice pls

DS (3) has been a bit under the weather since friday (came home from nursery, demanded all the lights off, lay down on the sofa & fell asleep at 5pm - unheard of). He perked up a bit over the weekend, but was then really grumpy and tired again yesterday (had a nap for the first time in over a year).

Also over the weekend I noticed his breath smelt really off - almost fishy smelling.

Way TMI coming up...

His poos over the weekend were quite frequent and very soft looking, and were a weird pale yellow colour. This afternoon he had a poo accident in his trousers, which seemed incredibly loose & wet, and since then has had 4 similar 'poos'. Now, I say 'poo', but it's actually more like yellow water shooting from his bum, and when it's in the loo it's yellow & frothy. Not right at all, and not even like any diahorrea I've experienced before.

He veers from seeming perfectly fine, to having major tantrums over tiny things. Slighthly raised temp, but nothing major.

I'm on night shift tonight so he's home with DH. Anything here ring alarm bells with anyone meaning I should visit GP in the morning, or is this just a bout of diahorrea and I should just sit it out for a day or two?

He's rarely ill, so when there is something wrong I tend to have a bit of a panic Sad.

I've avoided dairy/milk since this afternoon, and am trying to encourage him to drink water. He only ate breakfast yesterday, and hasn't eaten since lunchtime today. What else can I give him to ensure he doesn't get dehydrated?

shameless bump...

Will see how he's been when I get home at 7am before deciding on docs.

Anyone got any thoughts on what might be wrong with him?

Sounds like a stomach bug, but I'd still take him to the doctor's just in case and try to take a sample with you so they can send it off for a test.

Hope he feels better soon.

sounds viral to me, I'd just keep up with the water!

keep on with, i mean. DD just had a very serious vomiting bug (didn't move for 5 days except to be sick) and the hospital and GP said fluid intake is theonly concern, don't worry about food.

Well, he'd just woken up when I got in. No more poo incidents overnight, and said he wanted bread, which I'm taking as a good sign.

Keeping him off nursery today so will just see how it goes. Hopefully will be able to convince him to take a nap today so I can get some sleep Sad.

Struggling to convince him to drink water, but I know if I give him milk (which he's been asking for) he'll knock it back...That would be a bad idea, right?

you could try diluting the milk

Hmm. Did think that. He'd know though Wink.

Ah well, he seems right as rain at the moment. Fingers crossed that yesterday evenings poo-fest purged whatever it was in his tummy that was bothering him. I can't face cleaning any more poo today.

Can you pop to the chemists and get any dehydrating sachets (or GP will prescribe them). If you withdraw all food and fluids except clear water and rehydration sachets for twelve hours he'll get better much quicker as it gives the system time to rest and recover.

Milk v. v. bad idea will cause gut spasming and pain as well as splats.

Well, no more poo today. Seems happy enough (if a little tired), and running around the house. Has eaten some bread & potato too. Panic over hopefully. And he'll be going to nursery tomorrow because I need some sleep! (nights again tonight).

Thanks all for advice.
