I would greatly appreciate any brainwaves. I'm trying to find readings for my youngest daughter's christening next week.
50% of the people there will be 3-6 year old children and I'd really like to find an additional piece to read - something from a story book or a children's poem well written, sweet and maybe funny - that talks about happy family things/loving your family/loving other people - that sort of thing...I've looked through the velveteen rabbit and was wondering about the passage about what makes someone real but I'm not sure it quite works for a christening...any other suggestions?
("It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand.")
I've looked through traditional biblical books aimed at children but they are often not brilliantly written and I'd like the children to be able to really tune into this part of the service if possible..
I have several religious readings but the priest very helpfully suggested today including some kind of contemporary piece for the kids with a message behind it he could weave into his sermon.
Any ideas gratefully recieved. We have lots of the traditional favourites at home so I can probably dig out most extracts/suggestions..
