Books for a child just turning 4

My daughter will turn 4 soon and I'm starting to put together a wish list of books that she might like to get for her birthday.

Any suggestions for beautiful book editions or particularly well-loved stories that your 4 yr olds have enjoyed?

She especially enjoys stories that feature little girls, babies or women and (inevitably) princesses. We're currently working our way through the Usborne fairy tale editions that are pitched at younger-aged children.

She's not so keen on stories that are solely about boys or animals (unlike her brother who only wanted animal stories.)

Many thanks for any suggestions.

There's a book called 'you choose' which is fantastic for 4 year olds. It is not a story but has loads of illustrations on each page and is a way of getting kids to talk to you about what they like. E.g. where would you like to live ... I have bought it as a present many times and it has always been liked by the child.

Children Just Like Me is an absolutely gorgeous book. There's a double page spread on each individual child showing things like the house they live in (the old edition dd had included a yurt in Mongolia for example), their family, where they go to school if they do etc.

Ignore that it says 7-9, it's perfect to read out to a younger child & for them to look at the photos.
