What aft aftee Worst Witch & Harry Potter?

For DD (7) & I to read together at night, she loved the Worst Witch series & loved the first Harry Potter, is desperate to move on to the next one but I don’t want to move through that series quickly as I feel it gets dark quite quickly. She basically loves magical schools! She loves animals too. Quite girly. Any suggestions?? 😁

The 'dark' o fHP will wash over your 7 yo. read the second one to her, it's essentially the same story as the first.

Chrestomanci series from Diana Wynne Jones, start with Charmed Life. Not school stories but great magic.

And I reckon you can get up to at least HP book 4 before they become too much

We've read the first 3 Potter books with DS1 who is a similar age, he had no problems. Will wait a while before 4 though.

How to train your Dragon series is good.

The Goodly and Grave series has magic and animals (Smell the Cat is a favourite!)! Gorgeous illustrations too.

Not magical schools, but a witch and a cat, I just read my seven year old Carbonel by Barbara Sleigh.

The Enchanted Wood. I know she's probably way above this level in reading but the language isn't too easy as it's a little old fashioned and the stories are charming.

Have you tried the Amelia Fang series, or Nevermoor? There are new releases of both due out this month, I think (hopefully handy if you do like them).

My dd loves Charlie Bone by Jenny Nimmo.. Reckons it is much much better than Harry potter. She also adored the Chrestomanci books.
